It has been third time lucky for Dave Nunan and Pommie Williams when they teamed with Jim McMahon to take out the Wallerawang Bowling Club’s triples title for 2009.
Nunan and Williams have lost only two games of triples in three years including the previous two titles.
Their opponents in Ian McMillan, Des Francis and Mick Tonkin hoped to continue the trend.
With Williams and McMahon in form early Nunan’s team was on top as they went to a 12-2 lead.
The bird was not on Tonkin’s shoulder as his normal conversion shots were a little off.
Nunan went out to a 21-4 lead after 13 ends, setting up a good margin.
McMahon and Williams kept the pressure on as they pushed home the advantage to take out the title 31-11.
With the triples out of the way it is now onto the fours with a play or forfeit to be put on in two weeks time on Sunday, November 15.
If bowlers wish to make the final then they are to play their games as there will be no exceptions.
In the social bowls Brian Warren, Mick Milton and Barry Hiscock came from the clouds to score five shots on the last two ends to defeat George Glencorse, Dick Bulkeley and Tiger Feltham 20-19 in a thriller.
Reg Warner was in great form as he led Greg Anderson and Slip Doggett to a very good 29-16 win over Jack Nicol, Jim Brown and Mick Glencorse.
The score may have been bigger if only Greg Anderson used all his bowls.
It has been decided that the Wallerawang bowlers will complete the McTaggett Shield.
They will play their outstanding game against Rylstone at Rylstone with the game expected to be played on Sunday, November 22.
A sheet is up on the board.
The Thursday Night turnabout triples have begun in earnest with a full green for the bowls followed by a very good meal.
All teams are to make sure they notify if they can’t make it or are going to be late.
Winners last week included 2I&P, Wild Hogs, Builders, CWA, Green Machine, Jessie’s Girls and the Swingers.
The kitchen will be open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, so come down, and have a meal in a pleasant atmosphere.
