Marathons displayed their strength early in the A grade mid week tennis match with Deuces when Sylvia Blanchard and Sandra Thorn opened with a 11-0 win over Julie Grant and Doreen Hart.
The other notable winning set for Marathons came in the fourth, in which Rosalie Savage and Sandra Thorn won 9-2 over Julie Grant and Lynne Roberts, winning these nine games straight.
Deuces fought valiantly, winning the third and sixth sets and with some very good tennis being played.
Final score was a 4 sets to 2, 44 games to 22 win for Marathons.
Sandra Thorn was best for Marathons, winning all her sets convincingly while Janene Graham played well for Deuces.

Court two provided some very competitive tennis when Aces met Hot Shots.
Hot Shots won their second, third and fourth sets 6-5 and had an exceptional set in the fifth when Averil Charlton and Robyn Patterson won 9-2 against Elaine Draper and Robyn McManus of Aces.
With this win under their belt, they were only down one game going into the final set.
Sandy Alexander and June Kelly of Aces however combined very well against Tania McMillan and Stacey Rutherford, winning 8-3.
Aces won the day with a 2 sets to 4, 36 games to 30 win over Hot Shots.
June Kelly was best for Aces and Averil Charlton played very well for Hot Shots.
Sluggers met Slammers and some close sets followed.
Three sets again were a 6-5 result, two to Sluggers and one to Slammers, however a 9-2 win in the first set, when Leanne Nicholson and Marg Lowe won over Jill Young and Fran Le Fevre, gave Slammers a good start.
The score was not reflective of the level of competition, with a large number of deuces being played out.
The other useful winning margin was in the fifth set when Carol Carver and Marg Lowe won 8-3 over Rhonda Thompson and Jill Young.
There was only four games difference at the end of the day each team winning three sets and the games score being 35 to 31 Slammers' way.
Leanne Nicholson won all her sets for Slammers and Carol Whyte played consistently well for Sluggers.
