LITHGOW City Council was pleased to receive news that the Lithgow Flash Gift was one of the successful applicants to receive Destination NSW Regional Flagship funding.
“The Lithgow Flash Gift committee is pleased to receive the $10,000 from Destination NSW under the Regional Flagship Funding program,” Lithgow mayor Neville Castle said.
“This is the second year in a row the committee has received this funding.
“The funding will give the committee a chance to promote the event further afield including South Australia and Victoria, where a number of the top athletes live and compete.”
Lithgow City Council together with the NSW Athletics League and major sponsors including Centennial Coal, Westfund, Maritime Mining and Power Credit Union and Delta Electricity are looking forward to the 2012 event.
The Lithgow Flash Gift is once again set to be a major event on the Lithgow sporting calendar.
“It’s events like the Lithgow Flash Gift that draw visitors to the Lithgow area and the gift preserves the story of Marjorie Jackson, one of Australia’s greatest athletes.
“The event will be bigger and better this coming year with a growers and producers markets, sports expo, coaching clinics and children’s entertainment including a circus school along with the full program of athletics events from Little As to elite athletes.
“With the Lithgow Triathlon to be run the day following the Lithgow Flash Gift visitors to the area can make a weekend of it and hopefully spend time exploring our region.
“With the additional support from Destination NSW, a greater range of promotions will be possible to encourage more athletes and visitors to the area,” Cr Castle said.
The Regional Flagship Events Program focus is on events which are currently drawing visitation from outside their region and have the capacity to grow that visitation.
It provides a grant to assist events in marketing so they can target a broader audience than their own marketing resources would allow.
These events are selected through a competitive process.
The Regional Flagship Events Program offers funding of $10,000 for one year or triennial funding of $20,000 per event to be spent on marketing initiatives.
Due to the high number of quality events not all applicants which meet the criteria will be funded.
Many events apply a number of times before being successful.
Committee chairman Cr Ray Thompson said the Lithgow Flash Gift is funded through local sponsors.
“To receive this funding it will give us a chance to showcase the event to a wider audience.
“Attractive sponsorship packages are still available for businesses to support this great event. Sponsorship packages include media coverage and promotional activities leading up to the event and display areas with reserved seating on the day.”
The Lithgow Flash Gift will be held on February 25, 2012 at the Tony Luchetti Showground with the Lithgow Triathlon staged on February 26.
