It's finals time in touch

09 Mar, 2009 07:04 AM
There were some close games of touch as teams battled it out for finals places.

Teams will now face off for a grand finals berth with games sure to be tight.

The results from the semi finals are:

DIVISION ONE

Pink Panthers remained strong with a convincing win over Wildones 6-3.

Garry Milligan grabbed two tries for Pink Panthers while Courtney Sammut was good in support with one.

Wildones’ Jeremy Fittler took two tries with Kellie Slaven was also one of her team’s best.

Although losing this contest, Wildones will get a second bite at the cherry next week.

R and K Jets defeated Phwypers 3-1.

Best for Jets were Jane Monaghan and Liam Clarke who took two tries while Phwypers’ Michael Gant scored his team’s only try with good support from Jemma O’Brien.

This was an awesome effort by Phwypers who had their first year in Division 1 and are sure to be just as strong next year.

DIVISION TWO

Lepracorns had a comfortable win over Bandits, 7-4.

Craig Straney worked his magic to score two tries for Lepracorns while Robyn Miller was also one of Lepracorns’ best.

Misty Walsh scored a top try in the corner for Bandits only to find herself covered in white line powder with Matt Hughes also in good form, scoring twice.

Bandits will play next week to keep their grand finals chances alive.

Angus Place defeated Average Joes 5-3, thus ending their season.

Scott Hamment was back setting up the play for Angus Place, opening up the gap for Brittini Owers to score two tries.

Average Joes’ Mick Doggett was still running, scoring two tries.

DIVISION THREE

RHCS defeated Far Cups in a close contest, winning 4-3 in extra time.

This was Far Cups’ second week into extra time, but came off the other end this game.

Zach Jones was best for RHCS with Emma Oldman playing strong in defence.

Brent Tokoli and Ashleigh Machin played well for Far Cups who will have another chance of making the grand finals next week.

Club Lithgow showed too much experience for Fatoomsh defeating them 7-2.

Club Lithgow’s Sean Jenkins scored two tries while Kirsty Jenkins played consistently as always.

Fatoomsh captain Mark Fordham kept his team in good spirits and although they are now out of the competition, they finished the season really well, after going up a grade from last season.

DIVISION FOUR

Coalpac had a 3-2 win over Dawn Dashers in a very close game.

Father and son Alan and Jade Godden scored a try each for Coalpac while Kelvin Lampton was everywhere for Dawn Dashers but ran out of time in the end to find the equalising try.

Lithgow Hotel defeated Dead Budgies 5-4 after going into extra time.

Both teams were unsure in the drop off but Glen Brown kept his head and scored the winning try, keeping Lithgow Hotel’s finals hopes alive.

Dead Budgies never gave up with Andrew Ward scoring two tries and Conner Bilby playing his usual outstanding game.

This ends Dead Budgies run to the grand finals.

DIVISION FIVE

Redbacks delivered Mustangs their first defeat of the season, winning 6-5.

The experienced Redbacks proved too hard to handle.

Darren King and Joanne Cornwell ran most of the play for Redbacks, putting Mel Cronin in for two tries.

Mustangs duo Shannon Howell and Kristy Wilson scored two tries each and will get another chance to make the grand finals this week.

The Gang had a strong win over Touched Up, winning 8-2.

Chris Evans scored a hat-trick to give The Gang a strong win with Madison Griffiths also standing out for The Gang with some great defence.

Alex Warren’s fun spirited Touched Up are now out for the season.
