Helmets have secured the LASA Shield minor premiership despite a 5-2 loss to SSR whose win ensured them of a finals berth for SSR giving them out right third spot.
The match began with Terry McMillan taking on Helmets Mal Hewitt who looked strong to start but a run of 30 enabled McMillan to establish a commanding lead.
McMillan consolidated his lead as he raced to 73-43 victory.
Heath Andrews returned to the winning circle with a convincing 87-32 drubbing of Helmets’ Ian Miles who has been struggling for form recently and a solid display of potting from Andrews saw him race to an early lead.
Miles looked to close midway through the game but Andrews was in good form as he ran away with the win.
Helmets were on the board following a 57-54 win by Dave Foster over Frank Wawn.
Wawn looked to be in full control but a surge late in the piece saw Foster force a black ball finish.
With few opportunities presenting themselves it was Foster who was able to secure the black for the win.
Mick Tonkin rallied from behind to win by 22 points over Helmets’ Warren Drury.
With the game hanging in the balance Tonkin was able to hold his nerve, securing the remaining few balls for a 63-41 win, extending SSR's lead to 3-1.
Scott Trist narrowed the gap following a 71-48 win over SSR's Tom Mayers who fought hard but Trist had too much for Mayers.
Bill Cook wrapped the match up for SSR when he took down Ryan Nichols with a narrow 62-60 win to push the match 5-2 to SSR.
Dave Foster and Heath Andrews were the nominated standouts for their respective teams.
YABIUS v POCKETS
Yabius secured outright second position ladder when they took down Pockets.
Paul Hewitt began well for Yabius when he took on Pockets’ Sharon Missingham.
Hewitt played well but was aided by some uncharacteristic errors from Missingham.
Coming down to the finish it was all level but the run of the balls were going Hewitt’s way going on to win 72-50.
Leon Rust responded swiftly for Pockets with a hard fought 74-41 win over Dave Adams.
Trev Cameron restored Yabius' ascendancy with a black ball win over Pockets Adam Caine.
Caine was in top form early on with Cameron unable to gather momentum.
Cameron stuck to his guns and was able to stay close to the end.
Unfortunately for Caine it wasn’t to be as Cameron potted the black for a 57-53 win and a 2-1 lead for Yabius.
Brett Holt was up next for Pockets, taking on Yabius' Todd Milligan.
Holt began quickly, racing to a commanding lead but Milligan responded with a run of his own.
Coming down to the finish it was Milligan trailing by six with Holt looking on top but a couple of excellent pots on the blue, pink and black from Milligan were enough to give him a 44-32 win, extending Yabius's lead to 3-1.
Todd Bates restored some pride for Pockets in emphatic fashion against Yabius captain Justin Nelson.
A run of 24 from Nelson had him within striking distance but an immediate response from Bates with a run of 23 saw the game slip from Nelson’s grasp as Bates went on to take the game.
Game 6, and it was Chris Milligan who sealed the match for Yabius when he outlasted Jason Murray with a comfortable 92-55.
Todd Milligan and Todd Bates were nominated best and fairest.
TIGERS v MISCUES
The loss for Pockets opened the door for Tigers to finish in the top five when they took on Miscues.
The match began with Terry Christian taking on Miscues Al Piggott.
The game swayed back and forth throughout with both players playing well.
It was close right down to the finish with the scores finishing level but a re spotted black gave Christian an opportunity to take the game, which he did, winning 70-63.
Phil Nightingale responded quickly for Miscues with a 53-50 win over Leo Keeley.
Keeley looked to be closing in on Tigers’ second point but a couple of crucial errors saw the game handed to Nightingale.
Nightingale held his nerve and potted the winning balls to take the game and tie the match up one apiece.
Tony Medina was able to sway the match back in Tigers favor with a 14 point win over Rob Farnsworth.
Farnsworth’s recent run of good form had him as favorite but an inspired effort from Medina was enough to earn him an opportunity to take the game, going on to take the point 56-42.
Keith Morris extended Tigers lead to 3-1 with a convincing 66-29 win over Paul Wilcox.
Wilcox was unable to get going with Morris seemingly in an unbeatable mood.
Morris was able to limit Wilcox’s chances and went on to secure the game in just under 60 minutes.
Col Tattersall gave Miscues a glimmer of hope after a 58-30 win over Diane Stait.
In game six it was Tigers’ Brian Johnson taking on Miscues’ captain Brian Nightingale.
Nightingale led for most of the game but a lapse of concentration saw Johnson rally to within striking distance.
Johnson was able to consolidate on his good fortunes going on to take the game 49-42 and secure the match and a finals berth for his side.
Keith Morris and Col Tattersall were named best and fairest for their respective sides.
JIGERS v RED SOX
Club Lithgow played host to the remaining match of the evening with Jiggers taking on Red Sox.
Jason Anderson began well for Jiggers when he took on Red Sox's Gordon Fardell and led from start to finish to win 71-22.
Wayne Lewis continued for Jiggers when he accounted for Cec Thompson.
Thompson slowly clawed his way into the game but a dogged performance from Lewis saw him draw away again.
Coming down to the finish it was Lewis who was able to maintain his composure, hanging on for a 54-38 win.
Mark Perry made it three from three for Jiggers when he beat Gary Nolan.
Nolan was in full control for the majority of the game but a decisive bit of luck for Perry was enough to sway the game in his favor, going on to take the game 55-52.
Maurie Lennox was up next for Jiggers when he took on Red Sox's Ian Bulkeley.
Bulkeley was on song from the start with a run of 25 aiding him to the lead and despite a hard fought effort from Lennox was able to hang on and take the game 80-47.
Red Sox's run continued when Gary Bender was too strong for Jim Thomas with a 57-44 win.
Matt Tolhurst squared the games up three apiece with a 70-59 win over Greg Sutton.
Sutton began strong but slowly faded with Tolhurst's confidence growing with every shot he played.
Sutton looked to have the game in reach but a few pots late from Tolhurst was enough to see him over the line.
Despite the games being tied three each the aggregate point was awarded to Jiggers making the final score 4-3.
Ian Bulkeley and Jason Anderson were the nominated standouts for their respective teams.
