First grade teams struggle

26 Nov, 2009 07:18 AM
As the A grade cricket competition moves into the middle of the competition there are a number of teams struggling — especially with their batting with three teams this week lucky to make it to 100.

Court House were all out for 68, Hartley for 109 and Valley for 104.

On their day, they can match it with the sides higher up the ladder, but their consistency is up and down.

The highlight of the round was a smashing 64 scored by Workies La Salle Hornets’ Travis Cameron who then backed up with the ball to take 5-22 against Valley.

Results from last week’s round were:

Lithgow Hotel v Court House

Lithgow Hotel batted first and amassed a reasonable total of 182 with M McManus their best on 54 while Craig Bradford (38), J McKinnon (14), M Hutchinson (12), Terry Ford (16) and Steve Cronin (10) all got starts.

Court House’s Chris Isley tried hard taking 4-44 off his eight overs while Jake Gerrard, Brendan Hall and M Reed all grabbed two wickets each.

It was a disastrous innings for Court House that featured three golden ducks and three ordinary ducks.

Nigel Walsh (24) and Dude Deveigne (27) can hold their heads up high with their side being all out for 68.

The Lithgow Hotel attack was lethal with M Hutchinson taking 4-14, Terry Ford 3-27 and Craig Bradford 3-21.

Lidsdale v Hartley

After a good start, Hartley fell apart in the back half of their innings to finish with 109.

Lennie Redman (58 not out) and J Blanchard (20) were the main scorers and the only two batsmen to make it into double figures.

Jason Nunan showed that he still has a bag of tricks when he took 3-15 off eight overs while John Kearney took 2-30 and Grant Buttigieg and Darren Lambert took one each.

Nunan then backed up to open for Lidsdale and scored 43 with good support coming from D Hunter with 59 not out.

Nunan, a former player of the year, looks to be in the form that saw him win that title a couple of years back.

Lidsdale passed the Hartley total at 1-110.

Workies La Salle Hornets v Valley

Workies La Salle Hornets’ batsmen had no trouble with the weak Valley attack scoring the big total of 231, opener Todd Costello scoring 60 and all rounder Travis Cameron 64 while Danny Muir (20), Dallas Tilley (34) and Mark Dicker (18) also got among the runs.

Zac Fitzgerald tried hard for Valley taking 4-17 and Matt Writer 2-34.

Travis Cameron had a day not to forget, top scoring with 64, then running amok with the ball taking 5-22 off 7.2 overs.

Sam Gray also bowled well for his 2-27 off six overs to have Valley all out for 100.
