Workmens Club men’s hockey club held its annual presentation night for 2009, with more than 80 players and supporters in attendance enjoying an excellent night.
It has been a very successful year for Workies with Workies Gold taking out both the minor premiership and premiership.
Workies Blue finished third and were unlucky to strike clubmates the Golds in the final while Workies White finished with the wooden spoon … but still enjoyed the year.
President Owen Sedger welcomed everyone and spoke about the year, how it had been a year of rebuilding the club and the hopes of getting an A grade competition up and running next year.
He then thanked the Lithgow Workmens Club and Lithgow Tyre Service for their sponsorship, also thanking his hard working committee for making 2009 so successful.
The major awards were:
Player of the Year Shield: John Bird.
The Joe Da Costa Memorial Shield Rookie of the Year: Kyle Sedger.
This year in honour of the late Jim Muir and his tireless dedication over many many years to Workies, the club inaugurated the Jim Muir Memorial Shield for Clubman of the Year which Graham Muir presented to Owen Sedger.
Also the special honour of life membership of Workies hockey was awarded to Darren “Gooch” McMahon.
