It has been a brilliant year for Wolves premier league captain Michael Doggett and it just got better when he was named the Workmens Club Player of the Year.
Doggett topped the Group 10 try scoring list and represented in the Emerging Players Group 10 side, with the only downer being that his side missed out on playing in the 2008 grand final.
He was presented his trophy by Workmens Club president Peter Glendinning at the club’s annual presentation.
A big crowd attended the night with Workies’ rugby league president Bill Ranse welcoming guests, reviewed the year and thanked their valued sponsors.
Master of ceremonies for the night was Peter Watson and the awards were:
The Al Northey Memorial Rookie of the Year award went to under 18’s Joel O’Brien who had a magnificent year.
The Roy Thompson Memorial Club Person of the Year went to the hard working and popular Kathy Bilby.
The Digger Corney Memorial Highest Pointscorer award went to premier league’s Gary Milligan who scored 88 points for the season.
Coaches’ awards went to:
Under 18s (coach Graeme Osborne) to Steve Dellabosca.
First division (Brad Case): Jim Reinhardt.
Premier league (Michael Rushworth): Corey Osborne.
The Players’ Player awards were: Under 18 Ben Picman, First Division Nick Jobson and Premier League Jonathan Van Veen.
Best and Fairest: Under 18 Steve Hughes, First Division Nick Jobson, Premier League Kip Maranda.
The President’s (Bill Ranse) award for the Most Improved in any grade went to the under 18’s Allan Cronin.
The club’s Group 10 representatives were presented with a gift by Harvey Norman’s Scott Geddes and they were:
Emerging players side: Brendan West, Corey Willmott, Michael Doggett, Terry Crane.
Group 10 side: Jonno and Brendon Van Veen, Scott Fittler and Greg Bright.
Group coaches: Michael Rushworth and Graeme Osborne.
The three division’s managers were also presented with a gift and they were: Ben Lane (Under 18s); Jason Morris (First Division) and Shane Gibbons and Col Wotton (Premier League).
Presentations were made to those who manned the canteen, washed jumpers, sold refreshments, strappers, water runners, trainers, timekeeper and announcer and they were Kath Middleton, Carol Osborne, Dara Rushworth, Olive Ward, Debbie Northey, Kath and Richie Bilby, Craig Pugsley, Sid Tonkin, Wolf Kempa, Noel Yeo, Brent Tokoli, Monte Van Veen, Bunny Abbott and Peter Quinn.
The annual general meeting for the Wolves was announced as Sunday, November 9 in the Millennium Room starting at 11 am.
Following the presentation, patrons socialised, danced and had a great time.
