It was a huge honour for former Lithgow fighter Craig Barrett when he not only represented Australian in the World Poomsae Championships, but was named as team captain.
The event was held in Cairo, Egypt with the Australian side finishing in the top 20, a good result considering the standard of teams that competed.
Barrett is the current head technical coach for the ACT and has built up an impressive list of achievements during his illustrious career.
He was the National champion in 2008; represented Australian at the World Poomsae championships in Ankara, Turkey and also at the World Taekwondo Cultural Expo in Jeonju, Korea where he won a gold medal.
He also took gold in the Australian team at the 2008 World Taekwondo Festival in Cheongju City, Korea.
Barrett is a fifth dan instructor, recognised by the World Taekwondo Federation.
He is a Personal Development, Health and PE teacher at Yass High School where he includes taekwondo in the curriculum for the benefit of his students as well as teaching the sport outside of school hours.
Barrett has already enjoyed success as a coach with his students competing at both State and at National levels.
While in Cairo, Barrett took delight in witnessing the marvels of the Pyramids of Giza, The Sphinx, the Nile and the Valley of the Kings.
His interest in Egypt has continued since he studied Three Unit Ancient History at Lithgow High.
Barrett was born in Lithgow where he resided until taking up his first position in Griffith, NSW and is the son of Wendy Barrett and Kevin Barrett both of Lithgow.
