The curtainraiser to the Lithgow Flash Gift to be held next Saturday — The Sports Night of Nights — has attracted the cream of Australian sportspersons.
The night will be held at the Lithgow Workmens Club on Friday and in attendance there will be world, Australian and state champions.
A major coup for organisers will be the presence of former world champion boxer Jeff Hardy, one of Australia’s all time greats and gutsiest fighters.
Hardy won world titles in 1989 and 1991 and his fight with Dries Andries was recently voted on Foxtel as one of the best fights of the century.
He also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Hardy has generously signed two pair of boxing gloves that will be auctioned on the night.
Another Australian champion who will be in attendance is Darren Clarke, the Australian 400m champion in ’86, ’89, ’90 and ’93 and an Olympic finalist.
He holds the Australian 400m record.
There will be a couple of sensational sporting memorabilia items that will be up for grabs with a Parramatta and Australian rugby league football jumper signed by Lithgow sporting legend Barry Rushworth, cricket bats supplied by Sportspower and signed by Australian cricketer Doug Walters and John Benaud who will be present on the night.
Other items will be a racing shirt wore by cyclist Ian Chapman when he won silver in the 1963 Rome Olympics and a beautifully framed picture depicting the Toughest 12 men to play rugby league donated by the Men of League.
For those who are into collecting sporting memorabilia, this is a night not to be missed.
A sports star will be assigned to each sponsor’s table.
The major sponsor for the night is power transmission company “Poles and Underground” in conjunction to the Lithgow City Council.
Tickets are only $12.50 (includes finger food) or you can purchase tables of 10 at $120 and can be obtained at the Lithgow Workmens Club.
