The Lithgow Workmens Club was a hive of activity when it played host to a snooker and pool (cue sports) exhibition.
There were a number of guest champions on display with Shawn Budd the current 2009 Australian Open Snooker champion; David Reljic, current Australian Open Eight Ball champion and Gary Mares, former Australian Open Nine Ball Champion and former NSW Minor State Snooker Champion all in attendance.
The exhibition was held to promote cue sports in the western
areas of NSW in preparation for bigger events next year such as ‘Beat the Pro’ which is coming in the new year.
A good crowd was on hand to witness Gary Mares perform trick shots and demonstrate the art of snooker and the skill required.
A snooker challenge was also held with nine players drawn randomly.
Shawn Budd was impressed with the event and said he would like to see more people playing cue sports.
Budd said: “The league has over 1000 members and it’s free to join.
“People should play cue sports not only for the social aspect, but it’s a great indoor sport.
“The good news is that you will have the chance to win a trip to Las Vegas.”
David Kaye-Smith, also known as DK, runs the league and said: “I’d love to get something happening here in Lithgow on a Tuesday night, a social league with a handicap system, so you don’t have to be excellent players.
“You would also have the opportunity to win a trip to Las Vegas by playing in a competition in Sydney with the winners then earning themselves a place at the world’s largest pool competition, the Las Vegas Cup.
“The team then plays against 6000 players from around the world and will be kitted out in the official Australian League uniform.
“ Airfares, accommodation and tournament entry is all covered for the winning team and their hotel manager for the 12 day trip.”
