The Lithgow City Bowling Club held its inaugural John B Kelly Memorial Versatility “six a side” tournament.

This is in remembrance of one of the club’s hard working and popular member of the bowling club.

John’s wife Heather was in attendance to present the prizemoney and also the shield that will be played for annually.

With a maximum of 14 teams nominated both available greens were filled to capacity.

With teams playing for $1500 in prizemoney donated by the men’s bowls sub body and a great time was had by all participants.

Prizemoney was shared among the first five placed teams.

The winners with four wins +45 were the Les Barnes skipped team of wife June and the husband and wife combination of Brian and Gloria Davidson and Bill and Anne Anderson.

Second place with three wins +25 were Warren Wade, Fay King, the other Andersons Ray and Elvie, Pauline Jervis and Dave Robson.

Third, fourth and fifth placegetters caused somewhat of a dilemma for organisers when each of these teams finished with identical scores of three wins +10.

After some deliberations and many count backs, the team of Warren and Judy Kennedy, Max Hawken, Geoff Brooks and Noela and Margaret Wilds were awarded third place.

Fourth place team was the combination of Ian Robson, Barbara Bryce, Bill Barker, Ian Pryor, Pat McMillan and Gail Roberts.

Fifth place saw the team of Norm and Beryl Baker, Col and Cheryl Wotton and Kerri and Ken Bernard take home the chips.

The voice of all bowlers who played was that of satisfaction for a well organised tournament in memory of a great person and worthy to include in the district calender annually.
