Round two of Lithgow’s Saturday tennis competition had another brilliant day with players enjoying the warmer weather.
A1 DIVISION
In A1 Division David Forbes’ Volleys defeated Aces led by Kim Davis 9 points to 4 (39 games to 32 games).
For Volleys’ David Forbes was once again too strong winning three of his four sets and newcomer Roman Stolz proved to be strong competition winning two of his four sets.
For Aces up and coming junior Riley Swift made his debut in A1 winning two of his four sets and Sarah Lewis had a great day winning 3 of her four sets.
The match between Smashes led by Glen Fitzgerald and Brad Heath’s Lobs was an overwhelming win by Smashes winning 12 points to 1 (44 games to 23 games).
Glen Fitzgerald and Sue Metcalf paired up well together with Metcalf winning all of her sets and Fitzgerald winning three of his four sets.
True to form Paul Lewis was an asset for Smashers winning all of his sets and newcomer Arni Kieldgard also had a great day winning three of his four sets.
For Lobs’ Brad Heath and Cathy Loadsman were the most successful winning the only set of the day.
A2 DIVISION
The new format of singles and doubles in A2 Division has proved successful with a positive response from all players.
Nadal defeated Rafter in a close competition with a win of 7 points to 3 (29 games to 27 games).
Nadals Nick Johnston and Brodie Forbes are proving their worth winning a singles each and pairing up well to win a doubles and just missing out on their second doubles going down 6-5 in a tight tie breaker with a determined team in Rafters’ Zac Flynn and Dean McMahon.
In the other A2 match Kelly Doonan and Jono Loadsman for Cash defeated Tina Forrester and making his debut in the competition Thomas Stapleton for Federer 7 points to 3 (28 games to 24 games).
This match also saw a tight tie breaker with Cash’s Kelly Doonan proving too strong on the day with a convincing 6-1 win in one of her singles and also one of her doubles pairing with Jono Loadsman.
Tina Forrester for Federer also had a strong competition winning both of her singles and a doubles pairing with the determined newcomer Thomas Stapleton.
