Lithgow Lady Golfers held their Centenary Luncheon at the Lithgow Golf Club with president Joan Doonan, welcoming current and past members.
Many travelled good distances to celebrate the day including Flo Hill (Forster), Nancy Hill and Sylvia Browne (The Entrance), Yvonne Stapleton and Helen Toohill (Oberon).
The visitors were more than impressed with the many changes particularly in the beautifully refurbished clubhouse and also the state of the course which is magnificent following the recent rains and hot weather.
Following the welcome address those present enjoyed a beautiful smorgasbord lunch prepared by club caterer James Barnes.
Vice president Lynne Ritchie gave a brief history of the club saying: “Ladies were invited to join the Lithgow Golf Club as Associate Members on May 2, 1908; that was when the course was located at Mr O’Donnell’s Dairy (near Watsford and Conran Ovals).
“The first Club Championships were contested and won by Miss Lucy Boon in 1926.
“The Lithgow club has produced some magnificent champions over the years with the standouts being Mrs Peg Hoy who holds the record for winning 19 club championships and also current champion Sue Brooks who has won 13 consecutive titles from 1984 to 1996 — both excellent achievements.”
The centenary cake was then cut by president Joan Doonan and life member Peg Cronin.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent reminiscing with many a golf tale being exchanged.
A great afternoon enjoyed by golfing friends.
