Unique showing for Sweetbriar

09 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
LITHGOW Craft Cooperative will open their latest exhibition on Saturday at 2pm.

The exhibition will showcase the work of three different photographers and should be of interest to everyone involved in the art of photography.

The late Doug MacDonald was born in Lithgow with a wide range of interests including classical music, poetry and bush walking but his lifelong passion was for photography which he discovered while walking in the bush.

His interest in photography included all aspects of the craft and, not content with simply taking photos, he became a skilled darkroom worker which helped him to produce some very fine photographs. Doug passed away December 8, 2003.

Kevin Toohill is a keen amateur photographer and prolific traveller.

He is both secretary of the Mosman Camera Club Inc Sydney and secretary of the Federation of Camera Clubs NSW Inc.

The FCC is an association of 77 camera clubs, including Mosman which boasts more than 3000 members throughout NSW.

It is the largest such photographic association in Australia.

Some of Kevin’s work was selected by NSW in the prestigious annual Australian Interstate Photographic Competition for 2011, where each state and territory select 40 images which compete against each other in a range of photographic genres and categories.

Veronica Gillmer started taking photographs as a teenager in Melbourne when she was working as a darkroom assistant at Maggie Diaz and studying photography at RMIT.

She exhibited for the first time in Photovision 1964 at the Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne.

Veronica pursued a career as a flamenco dancer in Spain for 10 years before returning to Australia in the 1980s when she took up graphic design and typography studies and she now runs her own business which involves photography work.

For more information phone the craft shop any day from 10am to 4pm on 6352 3541.
