Threat still hanging over works head

23 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
STAFF with the Pacific National Coal Operations won’t be stood down without pay as members of the Construction Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) have withdrawn planned industrial action at the Port Kembla Coal Terminal.

Staff were notified on Monday morning that from 7am on Wednesday 108 of its 161 strong workforce in Lithgow and Port Kembla would be stood down.

Forty-seven of the employees operated from Lithgow and would have been on leave without pay.

However the company issued a release early on Wednesday morning saying this would not be happening.

Discussions between the CFMEU members at Port Kembla and the coal terminal took place late on Tuesday afternoon, effectively reversing the decision.

Pacific National Coal said that as a result of the decision it had notified its workforce that in the short term operations would resume and employees would not be stood down without pay.
