Blue Mountains TAFE Community Welfare Students have been racing the clock to set up a conference to explore ways in which students can be of better benefit community organisations from Lithgow to Penrith.
Working Together for the Future: Narratives on Social Change, a collaboration between Blue Mountains TAFE and MCRN (Mountains Community Resource Centre) will encompass new methods of best practise in Community Development and Education, Homelessness and Interfaith panel discussions and research on TAFE to organisation collaborations of the past and into the future.
Speakers will include:
* Toni McLean from the Think Twice Program speaking on Domestic Violence Offender programs;
* Virginia Field of Cultivate NSW discussing Horticultural Therapy;
* Chris Burke from Yarramundi Kids speaking on coping skills for Child Victims of DV through puppetry; and
* Effective ways of engaging men by Greg Millan of Men’s Health Services.
It is hoped that participating organisations will gain a valuable resource in the form of student groups that can take part in preliminary research, needs analysis, resource gathering, planning and running of whatever projects they wish undertaken in the community.
Organisations, agencies, charity groups, counsellors, teachers and interested individuals are invited to come and input their ideas for the benefit of the entire community.
The conference will be held next Wednesday and Thursday and will cost $50 for one day or $80 for both.
