No repeat forum on Capertee heliport

Lithgow Council has rejected a bid by Capertee residents to hold a second citizens access meeting in the village in relation to the ongoing debate over helicopter tourist flights over the Capertee Valley.

The helicopter debate has been continuing for several weeks and relates to a bid by a local resident to set up a tourist joy flights business from his property.

The debate has largely divided the community with supporters and opponents lining up on each side of the issue.

Decision on the development application has previously been delayed by a technical anomaly detected in the original environmental impact statement that resulted in the EIS being re-exhibited in its corrected form.

This meant that the statutory period for public submissions also had to be repeated.

At the latest meeting of Council's Planning and Development Committee, departmental manager Andrew Muir said the Capertee Valley Environmental Group had now requested another Citizens Access Committee meeting on site.
