ONE of the highlights of the Palettes of Portland Arts Society’s Roaring 20’s All That Jazz Ball was the announcement by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole that his government would be presenting a $5000 cheque for the continuing refurbishment of the Crystal Theatre.

“I can testify to the determination of Maree Statham,” Mr Toole said.

“She approached me some time ago for a helping hand in buying curtains for the walls of the Crystal Theatre and has reminded me on several occasions of her request.

“I can happily say that we now have $5000 to go towards the refurbishment of the beautiful old theatre and when you consider that the small town of Portland can stage a number of major events and that the district really supports these events, I feel proud to be able to help support these hard working committees,” he said.

Photos from the Roaring 20s night will appear in Saturday’s edition.
