Masonic support for Gorrie Ban

10 Nov, 2007 07:39 AM
At a ceremony at Fatima Hall this week a cheque for $5000 was presented to Gorrie Ban by Ron Frame, Regional Grand Counsellor for Region 9 (Central West), on behalf of MasoniCare, the philanthropic arm of the Freemasons in New South Wales.

Gorrie Ban is a community project that provides entertainment, social interaction, monthly outings, respite for carers and advice and education for the elderly in the Lithgow area.

Although Gorrie Ban was originally set up under the auspices of the local Catholic Church, it is a non-denominational organisation caring for all local people in need of its services.

Mr Frame said MasoniCare was delighted to be of financial assistance to any community-based projects such as Gorrie Ban.

“Such is the universality of Freemasonry that when giving donations to community organisations we make no distinction whatsoever in terms of age, race or religion,” he said.

“ We are part of the community and our members are a reflection of it.”

Sister Anne Clarke, on behalf of Gorrie Ban, thanked MasoniCare and local Freemasons for their very generous donation.

She said the money will be used to purchase a mobile telephone suitable for use in this rural area and some urgently needed furniture and office equipment.
