The Lithgow and District Cancer Support Group received a massive boost with the news that the Springvale Colliery employees would be presenting them with a sizeable contribution to purchase caps and bucket hats for their Family Fun and Fancy Dress Stroll.
A presentation of the cheque was made on behalf of the employees by Des Francis who said: “There are not to many homes in the district that have not been touched first hand by cancer and the Springvale boys were keen to get behind the Cancer Support Group.
“They do a magnificent job and we hope that our donation can help in some way.”
Like the other mines within the district, the employees have money taken out of their wages each week and then donate to charities within the district.
The Springvale employees have been active in the past couple of months with their charity work and it is great appreciated by the beneficiaries.
Spokesperson for the Cancer Support Group Neryl Wood thanked Des and his workmates and said: “The very generous donation is very appreciative and the good thing about the donation is that it will stay locally.
“There are many families that rely on our support and we try to make things just that little better for those that have contracted cancer.”
The hats purchased by Springvale will be used for the Cancer Support Group’s Family Fun and Fancy Dress Stroll on Saturday, November 28, 2009 starting at 2 pm.
The Stroll will start at the Lithgow Hockey Clubhouse at the Glanmire Oval and participates can either walk, run, stroll or job the four kilometers that will take in the streets of Lithgow.
Organisers encourage businesses, families, workmates or just enter yourself and dress up and join in the fun. Dress up is optional, but it just makes the Stroll that little bit more fun.
Registration costs are: Adults $15, children and seniors $10, Family (4) $50.
After the stroll there will be a barbecue compliments of the Lions Club and there will be canteen facilities at the hockey club.
There will be stalls, music, prizes for the best fancy dress – so come along, bring your picnic table and chairs and enjoy in the fun.
Registrations will be taken on the day, but to make it easier on organisers, those keen to join in the fun can contact Nerryl Wood 63550242, Pauline Bucholtz 63522343, Dianne Morrison 62513487, Karyn Mitchell 63512626 or Joy Smith at the Court House Hotel 63513234.
So come along, grab yourself a cap or hat compliments of the employees of Springvale Colliery, dress up and join in the Stroll – for what is one of the best causes possible.
