PORTLAND Men’s Shed has begun recognising those who have continually donated to the shed since its conception two years ago.
The first to receive a Men’s Shed Certificate of Appreciation was the RSL Club at Portland who have assisted the Men’s Shed with two substantial donations.
The funding was used to fix the interior of the building as well as administrative work.
The Men’s Shed has also received great support from Timber Fix in Lithgow, Collins Hardware, Delta, Highland Pine and Timber in Oberon and Structa Floor in Oberon.
“Timber Fix are our main source of supply for much of the big machinery that we have here in the shed, and they are all very pleasant people to deal with as well,” Men’s Shed coordinator Rob Alliston said.
The Men’s Shed are always looking for two things, new members and donations.
“We accept everyone as members here, women, youth, they learn all the same skills that everyone does.”
“It’s only $18 a year for membership and that covers your insurance at the shed and insurance if you are out doing a job with us at another site.
“We have a couple of suppliers out at Oberon who are really good to us, but it would be great to get some donations from the public as well.
Since it’s beginning the Men’s Shed has been welcomed in Portland and many community projects showcase their work.
“At the School of Arts Hall we put the railings on the stairs and we built the wishing well for the Portland Community Group,” member Max Dehaan said.
“We welcome anyone with any community projects that they need a hand with to get in touch with us.”
Men’s Sheds have been popping up across the country for a few years now.
