Claims are incorrect: Centennial Coal

27 Oct, 2011 03:00 AM
THE Department of Sustainability, Water, Population and Communities (SWPCC) claims Centennial Coal’s mining operations caused damage to the temperate highland peat swamps on sandstone ecological community are incorrect according to a company spokesperson.

Centennial Coal has not admitted nor has guilt been proven.

In good faith Centennial entered into an ‘enforceable undertaking’ with SWPC.

“An enforceable undertaking was a no brainer,” Centennial Coal’s general manager external Katie Brassil said.

“As opposed to spending our money on lawyers defending ourselves from this claim and the Government having to spend their money on trying to prove it, it seemed a far more sensible, productive and cooperative approach to agree to committing research funds, which helps all involved to better understand what we would consider occurs naturally within this ecological community,” Ms Brassil said.
