 A 10-tonne challenge for Lithgow

A 10-tonne challenge for Lithgow

24 Feb, 2008 02:29 PM
An innovative new program being conducted by local fitness professional Trevor Rosenberg may well see many Lithgow residents finish off the 2008 year much healthier and fitter than they started it.

Trevor is currently calling for participants in the 2008 ‘10000 Kilo Challenge’, a healthy community initiative which, if successful, will see local residents lose 10 tonnes.

The aim of the program is to record a 10,000 kilo weight loss across the entire Lithgow community for the year and everyone is free to enter — whether they are a member of the Club Revive gym or not.

“We have decided to run this challenge due to recent startling statistics concerning the health of residents within the Lithgow region,” Trevor said.

“The Lithgow City Strategic Plan — Social and Community Analysis states that our population as a whole has double the NSW rate of diabetes and rates of heart disease and heart attacks are well above the NSW average.”

Trevor is encouraging local workplaces, community groups, sporting teams and other organisations to get behind the initiative and to help in achieving the target.

He is hoping to establish group fitness workouts and circuit training, to be held outside in the fresh air to encourage participants to foster an enjoyment of exercise (free of charge).

A walking program is also available at www.clubrevive.com.au for those keen to establish a new exercise regime.

Trevor is also hoping to enlist the participation of one ‘significantly overweight’ individual who may be willing to have their progress tracked publicly in the Mercury each month as part of the challenge.

This individual will be given Trevor’s full support and access to fitness and dietary advice throughout the year.

Anyone interested in being the face of the challenge should drop in and see Trevor or Sharon as soon as possible at Club Revive.

Whether you need to lose two or 20 kilograms, this challenge is aimed at creating and fostering a much healthier local community.

Trevor is particularly concerned with health statistics which show local residents at much increased rate of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and heart attack.

“These are huge health concerns for a town such as Lithgow and we really need to address them quickly,” he said.

“We can make a few healthy changes within the community to make our outlook for the future a whole lot better.”

“The goal is 10,000 kilos lost in 2008 by the Lithgow community.

“That may sound like an enormous amount of weight however if you break it down, it is achievable,” Trevor said.

“You may lose the weight however you want and you are invited to utilise our expertise and advice when losing this weight with regard to exercise, diet and other important information.

“We will give you ideas, motivate you and provide tips on weight loss.

“Information is available on our website,” he said.

“You do not have to be a member of Club Revive to be a part of the challenge,” Trevor said.

“I am hoping to get the general message of better health and increased activity through to locals.”

All you need to do to participate is grab a form from Club Revive and weigh in.

You then have until December to record a weight loss.

You will be weighed again by Trevor in December and your loss will be recorded among the thousands of kilos anticipated to have been lost across the Lithgow area.

Entry forms are also available at the counter of the Lithgow Mercury office in Main Street.

The challenge is similar to the WellingTONNE concept conducted in rural NSW a few years ago when residents of Wellington were able to lose a tonne.

“If Wellington can loss that amount, Lithgow can easily pull together to lose 10,000 kilos,” Trevor said.

“A healthy body naturally maintains its own perfect weight.

“Let’s all go for it and see what Lithgow is made of ... we can do it!”
